History
The Kenku are a secretive race, revealing little of their history. Those who claim to have spoken with them tell that the kenkus are considered the first offspring of the Raven Queen. After her ascension to deity, she created flying humanoids from the earthly ravens; the kenkus' affinity for dark magic seems to affirm this.
A very old legend tells that the demon lord Pazuzu corrupted some kenkus, offering them power in exchange for the true name of the Raven Queen. Those treacherous kenkus almost succeeded, but the Raven Queen discovered their plans. In one version of the story, she cursed all the Kenku with a plague that decimated their numbers and transformed them into creatures unable to fly. Another version says that Pazuzu inflicted this disease because of the Kenku's failure, and that the Raven Queen did nothing to prevent the curse from running its course.
Whatever the reason, the Kenku lost the ability to fly and had to learn to coexist with the other land races. The kenkus found places to hide in the forces of the established societies. Hiding behind the shadows of civilization, they got what they needed, earning the essentials for a discreet existence while remaining inconspicuous. They also began to cultivate their natural talent for stealing anything from food to secrets, working together to create networks of contacts. The Kenku formed small enclaves, referring to them as flocks. Each flock within a region possesses one or more dens called an eagle's nest.
